Grilled Broccolini with Lemon

Even though this is the least “spring-like” spring I’ve seen since moving to the PNW, it doesn’t mean we shouldn’t fire up the grill anyway. This grilled broccolini with lemon is too good to wait for. Grey clouds be damned, it’s the season for BBQ!

I love this broccolini recipe. Broccolini is like the older, more mature brother to broccoli. It looks better on the plate, it crisps up nicely on the grill, and it takes to season well.

I keep it simple with this recipe and only use salt, pepper, oil, and lemon. You can easily toss your broccolini in minced garlic or sprinkle the finished dish with a heavy dose of parmesan for additional flavor.

No grill? No problem! If the rain has got you down, just swap it for an oven set to 375° for about 25 minutes. Stop halfway to rotate the baking sheet so it cooks evenly.

If you’re looking for the main course to pair alongside this grilled broccolini with lemon, I recommend this BBQ glazed salmon recipe.

Equipment

  • 1 Grill pan
  • Grill Or swap for an oven at 375°F and cook for about 25 minutes.
  • Mixing bowl
  • Tongs

Ingredients

  • 12 ounces Broccolini about 2 bunches worth
  • 1 Tbsp Oil I recommend avocado or olive oil
  • 1 Lemon
  • Salt to taste

Instructions

  • Heat your grill to medium-high heat and lightly oil a grill pan. Place the grill pan on the grill, so it warms up as the grill preheats.
  • Cut the bottom 1/4 inch off the broccoli stalks and toss them in your oil. Sprinkle generously with salt.
  • Place broccolini on the grill pan and place on the grill. Flip the stalks on the grill pan until all sides are nicely crisp and the broccolini takes on a vibrant green hue. If it starts to burn, move it to a cooler spot on the grill.
  • When your broccolini is fully cooked, remove it from the heat.
  • Slice your lemon in half and - using a pair of tongs - quickly grill both halves of the lemon.
  • Top your grilled broccolini with a heavy squeeze of charred lemon.
