With a whole day to ourselves, Frank and I ate and drank our way through Seattle’s famous Pike Place Market!
We found ourselves at the said market when we had the task of picking up a family friend from the airport. They had never been to Washington before, so we decided to make a day of it.
Eating at Pike Place
Arriving late in the morning, we started with brunch at Cafe Campagne, located directly off the Pike Place Market. I ordered the tuna Niçoise and Frank got the Oeufs en Meurette, poached eggs in a red wine foie gras sauce with pomme frites. We each ordered a glass of bubbly and enjoyed some modest people-watching.
Shopping Along Pike Place
After brunch, we walked through the Pike Place Market. Our first purchase of the day was from Chukar Cherries, where I bought some Chipotle BBQ Sauce and dried cherries, which I later used to make this chipotle BBQ glazed salmon and cherry chutney!
Following the walk through the market, Frank and I stopped at Sur la Table and the Spanish Table, a Spanish/French grocery store. I randomly bought a pear chocolate-filled Poire Williams liqueur… and oh my god… they are so good! I also walked away with rose water, one of my favorite sparkling mocktails ingredient, like this one!
Moving on, our last stop of the day was the World Spice Merchants. I had never been before, and what a treat it was! I walked away with some Limon Chile seasoning, which I used to make this badass Mandarin Momma cocktail. I also got some Mayan Cocoa, which I will eagerly use for recipes in the fall!
Drinking in SoDo
After refueling with a quick coffee from Pike Street Coffee, the gang made our way to the Vincent Van Gogh immersive museum in the SoDo District. The exhibits were gorgeous, and the interactive segments were fun for guests of all ages. The only thing I will mention is that there is no air conditioning. By the end of the exhibits, we were quite hot!
Luckily, not too far from the museum was a tasting room for Efeste. Frank and I split a bottle of ice-cold Riesling and had a refreshing rest.
Our day ended with a ride on the Seattle Great Wheel and dinner at Elliott’s Oyster House right next door. Overall, it was a wonderful, slightly chaotic, and perfect day at the Seattle Pike Place Market.
